and a mournful mannequin in a wedding dress

-are just some of the flamboyant characters in Lorca's surrealist farce from 1931.

WHEN FIVE YEARS PASS is one of what Lorca called his "impossible comedies", which was finished five years to the day before he was murdered by nationalist partisans in 1936.

It's a zany and scary dream about the transience of love and life, where past and future co-exist in the present, and Death always has the final word.
